Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo first week (structured chaos)

A neighborhood-first loop: west Tokyo calm, east Tokyo energy, and one “splurge” night—optimized for jet lag and decision fatigue.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Land & soften jet lag

No big plans—konbini dinner, early sleep, light walk.

    • IC card + airport express
    • Pick two meal defaults near the hotel
  2. Day 2

    Shinjuku / Shibuya orientation

Learn the station once; accept you’ll still get lost.

    • Morning: park or shrine nearby
    • Evening: one viewpoint (optional), early bed
  3. Day 3

    West side calm

Shimokitazawa or Koenji—small shops, slower pace.

    • Coffee crawl with zero reservations
  4. Day 4

    TeamLab or museum day

Book timed entry. Everything else is filler.

    • One anchor reservation
    • Late lunch > fancy dinner if tired
  5. Day 5

    East side energy

Asakusa + along the river; skip perfectionism.

    • Morning temple stroll
    • Afternoon: Akihabara only if you care
  6. Day 6

    Splurge night

One memorable dinner—book early, show up hungry.

    • Rest before dinner
    • Walk home if weather allows
  7. Day 7

    Pack & depart

    Buffer time is non-negotiable.

    • Souvenirs at the airport if you forgot

Principles

One reservation per day max after day 2. Tokyo punishes over-scheduling; the trains are fast but your attention is not.

If you only do three things

Walk a neighborhood without maps once, eat at a department store basement once, and take one long bath at the hotel.
